You are a little older and a lot wiser; yet your vision isn’t as good as it was twenty years ago. Eventually, cataracts (clouding of the natural lens) affect everyone, including you!
When the time is right for cataract surgery, it is also possible to have your vision corrected and say goodbye to those readers, bifocals, and trifocals. That cloudy lens which is causing blurry vision and difficulty at night can be replaced with one that will correct your vision, making reader and bifocals unnecessary. We are here to assist you in turning back the clock whenever you are ready!
What is a cataract?
A cataract is a natural part of “celebrating birthdays.” As you approach your 60s and 70s, cataracts begin to develop when proteins inside the lens of the eye start to break down. This causes cloudiness and affects vision. The first thing you may notice is difficulty driving at night and glare. Eventually, if untreated long enough, cataracts can completely block your vision. Fortunately, at Shader Vision, with advanced laser cataract techniques, we can restore clear vision, as well as provide independence from glasses at the same time if desired.
Cataract surgery has progressed a lot over the last thousands of years when it was first done considerably by the ancient Egyptians. This technique was rather barbaric and involved taking a sharp object and poking the eye so hard that the lens fell into the back of the eye.
Today, things are much different! Cataract surgeons have perfected the technique, to the point where today it is a quick, minimally invasive, outpatient procedure. LASER assisted cataract surgery is the most modern approach to cataract surgery. Dr. Shader will make a small opening in your cornea, break up the cataract and remove it, and then place a new clear biocompatible artificial lens inside your eye.
See if you qualify for advanced cataract surgery, depending on your eye health, it is possible to insert an advanced lens.

Typically, medical insurance covers only the medically necessary portion of cataract surgery. It will pay for the insertion of a basic lens. Medical insurance typically does not cover advanced lens technology, so the cost to you will depend on your individual plan and your co-pay amount. These cutting edge technologies are used to provide you independence from glasses at the same time you have your lens replaced. If you have astigmatism, this can be corrected with an advanced lens, too! Multifocal lenses, those that allow you to see at all distances and free you from reading glasses, are typically not covered by insurance. A member of the surgery scheduling team at Shader Vision can provide you with the costs of these advanced procedures before scheduling your surgery.
